As part of their ongoing commitment to community service and charitable giving, Freemasons WA proudly presented a $10,000 donation to WA Police Legacy on the afternoon of 4 March 2025.
The presentation took place at WA Police Legacy headquarters, marking a meaningful collaboration between two organisations dedicated to supporting the Western Australian community.
The formal presentation was led by Most Worshipful Grand Master Jim Walker, representing both The Grand Lodge of Western Australia and Masonic Foundation, alongside Worshipful Master Matthew Bancroft of Old Goldfielder’s Lodge No. 303. Accepting the donation on behalf of WA Police Legacy was Commander Quentin Flatman APM, Chairman of WA Police Legacy.
This significant donation was made possible through the charitable efforts of the brethren of Old Goldfielder’s Lodge, who raised $5,000 through various fundraising initiatives as part of their ongoing service to the Western Australian community. In recognition of their dedication and generosity, Masonic Foundation matched this amount, contributing an additional $5,000, bringing the total to $10,000 in support of WA Police Legacy’s important work.
WA Police Legacy, established in 1992, is a vital organisation providing care and assistance to the families of deceased and incapacitated police officers in Western Australia. Currently supporting families of Police Widows and over 40 children ranging from 8 months to 26 years old, WA Police Legacy offers essential services, including financial assistance, educational support, grief counselling, and life skills development through annual camps and community events. Their mission ensures that families of fallen officers are never left in want, continuing the legacy and service of those who have dedicated their lives to protecting the community.
Following the presentation, Commander Flatman, the Grand Master and Worshipful Master engaged in an insightful discussion about the shared values and missions of their respective organisations. Both parties expressed appreciation for the meaningful contributions they make to the Western Australian community, particularly to those facing hardship and disadvantage. The Grand Master also outlined the range of support provided by Masonic Foundation, highlighting its commitment to charitable works across the state and welcoming future opportunities to support WA Police Legacy.
Commander Flatman expressed sincere gratitude for the generous donation and shared his enthusiasm for exploring potential partnerships with the Freemasons, recognising the powerful impact such collaborations can have in furthering the support available to police families in need.
This meaningful donation is particularly special in 2025, as it marks the 125th anniversary of the inauguration of the Grand Lodge of Western Australia. This milestone year celebrates over a century of Freemasonry’s enduring commitment to charity, brotherhood, and community service across Western Australia. The donation to WA Police Legacy stands as a testament to this ongoing legacy, reinforcing the Freemasons’ pledge to serve and support those who serve others.
The Grand Lodge of Western Australia will formally celebrate its 125th anniversary later this year, with further details to be announced.
